Addiction recovery centers can use a number of different therapy approaches

Holistic Model

Holistic methods can be complementary to other treatments. Methods can include acupuncture/acupressure, massage, Reiki, Yoga, nutritional therapy and more.

12-Step Model

Started by Alcoholics Anonymous, many addiction recovery centers use the 12-step model to achieve and maintain abstinence from substances or behaviors. Sharing experiences together is key to this approach.

Yes, spirituality can help in addiction recovery. Belief in something bigger than yourself – God, Allah, the Universe, etc. – can be a driving force in returning you to health. The knowledge that there’s more to life can be an extreme motivator.

Truly, addiction recovery is a lifelong process. But, the time spent in treatment is limited. You may be there for one month or six months – it all depends on what you need to get out of it.

An addiction recovery coach is someone who can help you find the resources you need for detox, treatment, family support, education – whatever you need. They are there to help you make good decisions. They are not therapists or counselors, and do not look at the past – they are future-focused.

There are a few different ribbons for different classes of addiction:

  • The addiction recovery awareness ribbon color is turquoise.
  • The addiction, alcohol dependence, drug addiction, huffing, and substance abuse awareness ribbon colors are red.
  • The gambling addiction awareness ribbon color is teal.
  • The opioid addiction, eating disorder, binge eating disorder, and bulimia nervosa awareness ribbon colors are purple.

It’s not your fault that you have this addictive disease. But it is your responsibility to manage it and find the help you need. Having the will power to seek and ask for assistance, and accept it when it comes, is key to your recovery. Will power is not enough to take you through recovery alone, but it is a big help.

Yes, addiction recovery is possible without spiritual belief. Belief in yourself and your power to change can be a driving force in returning you to health. The knowledge that you are the sole one responsible for your life can be a huge motivator.

Very few people have the means to pay the full cost of addiction recovery out-of-pocket. Thankfully, there are ways to pay for the cost of recovery without insurance.

Once you’ve double-checked that your insurance truly won’t cover your recovery, your next steps are to check for state-funded clinics, faith-based clinics, or community-based clinics that can offer free or reduced-cost recovery programs.

There are also scholarships and grants which can help reduce the cost of recovery programs.

If you are categorized as low-income, your state may offer subsidized insurance coverage, and your chosen recovery program may offer sliding-scale fees.

The last alternatives would be: financing recovery with credit; financing recovery with money borrowed from family; or, raising money online.

Many jobs and careers allow for use of FMLA time (Family and Medical Leave Act). While there are exceptions, U.S. law allows for the use of up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during a 12-month period for a qualified medical reason.
